Future problems, solutions and opportunities.

I said in my video this morning that the two most important things for Artists to do is;
1. Create wonderful original Art.
2. Sell the original Art.
I also said the next thing to do was to be able to look into the future and see the opportunities that will be available and the way to do this was to learn all you can about what is happening in business and technology on the internet.
There is so much information available on You Tube to help you to recognise opportunities and them to implement them into your Art practice.
The opportunity that you will find will be outside what you already know that is why we need to be exposed to new thoughts and new ideas and be prepared to embrace change because it is coming.
Now after we do this what we need to do is learn to recognise the problems that may come in the future with such change happening.
If you now have a world wide audience then you are going to sell into some distant markets, how are we going to collect the money and deliver the painting?
This will need to be thought through, how do we do this?
If we start thinking about these issues before we are faced with then and we can start searching out answers without the pressure of having to send the Art work tomorrow morning, then these problems can be sorted out before we ship out first painting.
Think about these things and find ways to solve them.
Certainty it would be wise to open a Pay Pal account in preparation so you have a way of collecting your funds safely.
How will you send your Art work?
Sculpture will have be boxed and insulated against breakage,
Who will be responsible if it breaks?
What about paper works under glass?
With paintings, canvas can be rolled, not the best for the canvas but more economical than sending large framed paintings, all this must be thought through so you do not get any surprises.
Who pays freight?
What insurance will you need?
Who pays the insurance?
I put these thoughts forward to you so you can think and ponder them.
With the wonderful independence that Artists are getting from the Internet also comes greater responsibility, now we are responsible to ship our work instead of the Gallery.
We might not be paying commissions and we now get all the money but our problems have increased and we must grasp them as opportunities to build and strengthen our Art business.
With change comes new problems that will require new solutions and within those solutions will be great opportunities.
