Chapter 5. Friday.

Sam had been very busy all week creating new work and every night at seven Chloe would ring and they would chat for half an hour, Chloe said it was her break time as she usually worked until ten.

It was around seven and Sam was looking forward to speaking to her friend Chloe.

There was a knock on the door, she wondered who it could be, she opened the door and it was Chloe standing there smiling at Sam, she rushed in and gave Sam a big hug and said. “I managed to get away from Seoul early so we came straight to you, get you bag we are going out for dinner.”

“Yes, ok, I suppose so, where are we going?”

“To my suite in the hotel, Jenny told them we would be early, it seems I am the only one who books that suite, let’s go”

Sam grabbed her bag and felt under dressed in her denim shorts and t-shirt, still it didn’t seem to worry Chloe, she was surprised to see only Jenny in the van and said. “The other girls didn’t come this time?”

“We left them in Seoul, we don’t need them this trip, so Sammy tell me about your week and how many paintings you have created?”

They had a wonderful evening, Sam talking about her art, she was surprised at how interested Chloe was and how she always looked straight into Sam’s eyes and hung on every word.

Sam wanted to know more about Chloe, curiously she always deflected Sam’s inquiries and put the questions back to Sam about her art.

When it was time to leave, Jenny took Sam home, it was late and Jenny did not say much.

Sam had agreed to meet Chloe at the lake mid morning and she thought she would go earlier and do some sketching as the weather was beautiful and warm.

Saturday, the Lake district, South Korea.

Sam was lost in her thoughts sketching, colours swirling around the paper, beautiful marks appeared as Sam used oil pastels, when Chloe walked up to her and saw her. “Sammy, you are very busy working, I feel bad disturbing you.”

Sam looked up and smiled at Chloe. “I woke early and thought how lovely it would be to create here on the side of the lake and smell the freshness of the morning air, now you are here I will stop and talk to you.”

Walking around the lake, they could hear the birds splashing in the water, the sun was warm on their backs as they chatted with each other, Chloe stopped and held Sam’s hand and said. “Sammy, please spend the day with me, I missed you so much last week, please have lunch and dinner with me?”

“Ok. you must let me pay for some of it?”

Chloe pouted and said. “No, your my friend and you are not paying for anything.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes I am.”

Chloe took Sam’s arm as they wandered back to the van, Sam glimpsed Jenny smiling at them and wondered what it meant?

Sam spent all day Saturday and Sunday with Chloe, it was getting late in the afternoon and a cool breeze had begun to blow as Jenny walked over to Chloe and said in English. “Miss, we are going to have to leave soon, you have a lot of calls, people are looking for you.”

Sam said. “I will let you go and take care of your business.”

Chloe looked at Sam with sad eyes. “Sammy they can wait, I am with you right now and that is what is important, tomorrow I leave for Europe and the states and I will be away for six weeks, I will miss you terribly. When I get back I am taking off a week and I will come and stay here with you for the whole week, then come here every weekend after that to see you.”

Sam looked at Chloe and said. “I hope you have a safe trip and I will miss you also, do take care.”

Chloe hugged Sam and said. “I will ring you while I am away, take care.”

They both walked over to Jenny and they drove Sam home.

Sam and Chloe stepped out of the van and Chloe hugged Sam and Sam drank in Chloe’s beautiful fragrance, she felt her soft, her warm lips press against her cheek and she felt a thrill inside.

Sam waved as they drove off, the feeling of loss came over her, she would miss Chloe as she gently touched her cheek.

Inside her kitchen Sam made some tea, then sat down in her soft lounge chair and reminisced about her time with Chloe and wondered, she had close girl friendships in the past, was this just like them or was this very different?

Sam thought to herself, why do I feel the sense of loss when she goes, Sam didn’t understand these emotions?

Who is Chloe and what does she do?

Mid September.

The six weeks had flown by, Sam was so busy creating, she made sure she was always busy so she didn’t spend to much time thinking about Chloe and the phone calls she made, there was only a few of them and they were quite short.

Autumn was here and the colours of the trees were turning red and yellow and there was a chill in the air, fortunately Sam had taken George’s advice and bought thermal clothing, heavy winter coats and she now had a heater in her home and in the studio.

Around midday, Sam was washing her brushes and placing then in a container, thinking about lunch, there was a knock on her door, she was not expecting anyone.

She opened the door and Chloe flew into her arms and hugged her tightly and kissed her on her cheek, finally she let Sam go and said, “I have missed you so much Sammy.”

Sam said. “I have missed you also, I am glad you are back.”

“Sammy it was a long six weeks, I am sorry I did not ring you more, it was just a hectic time.”

“I understand, you were very busy.”

“I have a gift for you, I hope you like it, it’s the latest Zoir perfume, it smells wonderful, here, it’s for you.”

Chloe handed Sam a box and she opened it and the sweet floral smell filled the air and Sam said. “It’s wonderful, I will only wear it when I am with you.”

Chloe smiled and said. “Thank you Ma'am, let’s go and have lunch.”

Over the next week Sam and Chloe were never away from each other from morning until night, the only time they were separated was when they slept.

Chloe took Sam on some road trips to the other side of the lake so they could see the autumn colours, they walked together through the trees, they could feel the cool breeze on their faces, winter was coming, they enjoyed each others company.

By the end of the week neither wanted to see the other go back to work, for Chloe work was pressing and Sam needed to get back into the studio.

Chloe loved the new work and bought another painting from Sam before leaving for Seoul.

Over the next four weekends Chloe came and stayed in the hotel so she could be near Sam, on the last weekend Sam and Chloe were sitting in Sam’s studio and Chloe said. “Sammy, I have to go overseas again and I won’t be back until the first week of December, I am going to miss you a lot.”

“Oh, I will miss you a lot also, where are you going?”

“Australia, because it is spring there and then Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia and then back here the first week of December.”

“Chloe, one day you must tell me what you do, it sounds so interesting?”

“I will tell you everything when I get back,” Chloe paused and thought, “Sammy do you think you would ever get married again?”

“I am not sure after what I went through, it would have to be a very special man, honestly, I am sure he doesn’t exist, what about you?”

“After the breakup with Tee, I don’t want another relationship like that, maybe you are right there is no man out there who would be that special.”

Chloe thought for a moment. “Sammy please don’t be alarmed, have you ever thought about being with a woman?”

“No, I knew some lesbian couples in the fashion industry in Sydney, they seemed happy enough, I never considered it. Why?”

“I just wondered, we are so close, have you had many boyfriends?”

“No, my ex was my first, I suppose that’s why I was so devastated, I saved myself for a man and he turned out to be a horrible person.”

“Really Sammy, Tee was my first, I don’t want to go there again, the pain was so great, he played around on me, I promised myself never again, it hurt so much.”

Sam felt vulnerable. “I am not sure why I am saying this, I know that I am going to miss you terribly, it hurts every time we part I don’t know why?”

“Really, you feel that also, I do not like parting from you.”

“I feel we are growing very close.”

“Yes Sammy, I feel that also.”

“I am going to miss you terribly.”

“I am going to miss you so much, we will talk about everything when I get back, please give me a big hug.”

They both stood up and hugged each other and Chloe said. “I have to go Sammy, stay safe and warm, I will see you when I get back.”

Chloe kissed Sam on her cheek, turned and they both walked out to van where Jenny was waiting, Chloe got into the van and they waved as they drove off.

Jenny turned to Chloe and said in English. “Miss, soon you will be in so deep you will not be able to get out, I hope she feels the same way?”

“I am still going to go slow, she is so beautiful, I don’t want to lose this one.”

Jenny smiled and sat back in her seat and she thought, what is going to happen?
