Chapter 9. Christmas day.

Sam showered and was coming down the stairs for breakfast and she saw Chloe and Jenny telling the men where to put the large Christmas tree, it was covered in beautiful decorations.

The maids were placing chairs all around the room, Sam walked down to them and Chloe said. “Sammy, don’t you love the Christmas tree, aren't the decorations beautiful? And look at all the presents around it, they are for our guests who will be arriving soon.”

“You have guests coming?”

“Yes, my mother and her sisters, some cousins, some of my nieces and nephews and Jenny’s mum and dad are coming as well, they are staying near by, our van will go and pick them up soon, come lets eat.”

Chloe and Sam went into the dining room and they had some fruit for breakfast.

Sam was feeling much stronger, she looked up and saw that Chloe was looking at her and Chloe said. “Not many of my relatives speak English, my mother does as she works for a multinational company and has to deal with westerners, I am not sure if any others do, you may feel a little left out today.”

“I will be fine, it will be fun to watch all the activity, when did you wrap all the presents?”

“The girls in the office spent the last two days wrapping them, Jenny chose all the gifts out of the room I showed you, most of the adults get perfume, my mum and her mum will get a designer bag each, all the young ones get Ever Love merchandise, it’s easier that way.”

Sam said. “I will ring my mum later, can I tell her we are coming to visit her?”

“Yes Sammy, just don’t use our names, just say two friends are coming with you and we are staying in a hotel.”

“Ok, she will be so happy, thank you Chloe for all the wonderful Christmas gift you gave me, you are so wonderful to me.” Sam hugged her.

“Sammy, you are my favourite person in the whole world, I am so glad you are here with me now to have Christmas together.”

“I am so happy being here with you,” she smiled, “it will be a wonderful day.”

Chloe hugged Sam and kissed her.

Chloe said. “I meant to tell you, Jenny contacted the real estate lady you rented the house off and she asked for Mr Kim’s number, to tell him you have been sick and you are staying in Seoul, he wanted to know if you still wanted to rent the house and Jenny said she would ask you?”

Sam looked down. “I love being here with you, but I suppose I need to be independent and get on with my life.”

“Sammy, you can stay here with me forever, you have a studio here and we will go to the lake country at every opportunity we can, please don’t go, don’t leave me.”

Sam smiled at Chloe and gently kissed her, Chloe said. “I really want you to stay with me, lets talk about it next week, today is Christmas day and I want to enjoy it with you and the family.”

The door bell rang on the front door, Jenny went and opened it and Chloe’s mother and relatives came in, Chloe stood up and kissed her mother, they hugged and she greeted all the other relatives.

Chloe bought her mother to meet Sam, “Mommy, this my dear close friend Sam, she has been sick and she is staying with me now, Sammy my Mom.”

Sam reached out her hand and said. “Hello Ma'am, it’s nice to meet you.”

“Hello Sam, please call me Nita, please don’t be formal, after all the festivities I look forward to having a chat with you.”

Chloe said. “Mommy, she is an amazing artist and these are two of her paintings, aren’t they wonderful?”

Nita looked at the two large paintings hanging on the wall and said. “Yes, they are very nice.”

Jenny’s parents arrived and Sam was introduced to them, they did not speak English and went and sat down.

Chloe and Jenny started giving out presents, there was lots of smiles from the young ones as they all got Ever Love clothing, Sam noticed lots of colourful hoodies with so much branding over them and they all had written on the back, “Ever Love World Tour Number 9.”

The maids came out with the many large plates of food and placed it on the formal dinning room table, after the two mothers chose their food everyone else started to get their food and sit down.

Chloe’s mother came and sat near Sam, Chloe came over to them and sat down beside Sam, a maid came over to Chloe and Sam and gave them both a plate of food, her mother looked up, but said nothing.

After she had finished her food Sam excused herself and went downstairs and rang her mother. “Hello mum, it’s Sam, Merry Christmas.”

“Sammy, how are you, I miss you dear, is everything ok?”

“Yes mum, I have some good news for you, I am going to be in Sydney for New Years Eve and coming to see you.”

“Really Sammy, you will be in Sydney, I will make your bed and get ready for you.”

“No mum, I am coming with two friends and we are staying at a hotel in the city.”

“Why Sammy, I have enough room for the three of you, stay with me and save your money.”

“Mum, we cannot stay with you, but we will spend time with you.”

“Sammy, why can’t you stay with me?”

“Mum, I will explain when we arrive, I am looking forward to seeing you, I will ring you when we arrive.”

“Ok Sammy, how long are you staying?”

“We are coming for three days.”

“You are coming all that way and all that expense for three days?”

“Yes mum, just to see you and my two nieces.”

“I don’t understand, all that distance, all that expense, Sammy how can you afford that?”

“Mum, I will explain everything when I see you, don’t worry everything is good.”

“Well, if you say so dear, I look forward to seeing you and hearing about your great adventure.”

“Yes mum, I have to go, I will ring you next Friday, I love you mum.”

“I am looking forward to seeing you darling, Merry Christmas, I love you.”

“Love you mum, I will see you soon, bye.”

After everybody had finished eating, people started to go, they all came up and thanked Chloe, Jenny took her parents back to their hotel, they did not look comfortable and all that was left was Chloe’s mother and three aunties.

They were all chatting together in Korean and Chloe came and sat down beside Sam and said in English. “Mommy, do you like your bag?”

“Yes, it is very beautiful.” And then switched back into Korean, the four women stood up and spoke to Chloe and then the mother turned to Sam and said. “It was nice to meet you.”

“Likewise, it was nice to meet you.”

Chloe walked them to the front door, said goodbye and walked back into the lounge room and sat down beside Sam, put her head on Sam’s shoulder and said. “My mother is hard work sometimes.”

“What do you mean?”

“She is very old school, she does not approve of what I do and my lifestyle, she thinks I should get married and raise a family, totally opposite to what I want, the reality is she can do nothing, she doesn’t say anything anymore, as the house she lives in I own and her partner lives there with her.”

“Why didn’t he come?”

“Sammy, he would never come into my home and stand in front of a young woman he is indebted to, yet he still lives in my house, anyway he was not missed.”

“Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, especially the young ones, they loved all the Ever Love clothing.”

“Yes, they love it, they have the latest clothing from the last world tour number 9, so they are happy.”

“I notice that you don’t wear Ever Love clothing, why?”

“I wear it on stage and on tour, but not in my everyday life, some of the girls do, I would rather wear Zoir or BZT, Sammy what would you like to do, would you like to watch a movie?”

“Go out to a theatre and watch a movie?”
“No, we can go downstairs to our movie room and watch it there.”

“What, you have a movie room?”

“Yes, you go in through the gym, it’s under the kitchen and the maids bedrooms.”

Jenny walked in and Chloe said. “Jenny do you want to watch a movie?”

“Maybe, Miss my parents were just so uncomfortable being in your home, they don’t understand how you can employ me because you are a singer, anyway I have arranged a car for them to be taken to the airport tomorrow morning, I don’t think they will come again.”

Chloe said. “You did your best, that’s all you can do, lets watch a movie, what new ones do we have? Wait, did you get that video I asked for?”

“Yes Ma'am, honestly I am not sure I would like that, I am not really into it.”

“No problem, I want to see it, if you don’t like it you can go and watch your Korean dramas in your bedroom.”

Sam asked. “What are we going to watch?”

Chloe smiled. “Secret, come, lets watch it.”

The movie room was quite large and there was a big screen on the wall and six double dark blue lounges, Sam ran her hand over the arm of the lounge it was very soft.

Chloe and Sam sat in one of the double lounges and Chloe snuggled up to Sam, Jenny put the video on, up on the screen came the words Metropolitan Opera House presents “Madam Butterfly.”

Chloe said. “What do you think Sammy?”

“It is a beautiful opera, it is very sad, we will need tissues.”

“I have never watched an opera ever, I hope I like it?”

The opera opened and Jenny left the room quite early in the opera, Chloe seemed to be engrossed in it, of course Sam was loving it.

The opera got to the final scene and Sam couldn’t help herself, she began to cry, Chloe reached out and took her hand, then the final curtain, all the participants came out on the stage and bowed, then it was over.

Chloe stood and walked over and switched off the video and switched on the lights, she sat down beside Sam and said. “In the beginning it was hard to watch, slowly I got into the story, I loved the beautiful songs and that tragic ending, I loved it, we both cried, what high drama, so sad what they did to her.”

“Yes, it is a beautiful opera, I am glad you liked it.”

“Imagine a K-POP idol watching and liking opera, what will my fellow band members think, thank you Sammy for educating me.” She leaned over and kissed Sam.
