The Voice of the Muse.

Some people call it their Angel and some their spirit guide, I often refer to it as “ That still small voice.”
It is knowing that you know or maybe being in the zone, it is allowing the genius within to do the work.
It is that time when the hours fly by like minutes and you see that you have produced a wonderful painting.
How often have you looked at your finished painting and wondered to yourself, did I do that?
It’s like looking at a painting for the first time and knowing that you did it but you wonder how?
That is when you know the Muse has been at work, releasing the genius within you, your genius and it works with you and through you.
In ancient text it says “ The Kingdom of God is within.”
Now you may translate that to mean what ever you want but I see it as the genius within, the inspiration within, your creative instinct and ability all within us that we have to allow to flow through us. We have to reach within and allow that power to flow through us, all that creative ability is locked within us and it is our job to let it flow out.
But in the hustle bustle of our lives this is not so easy and it will take practise and preparation to allow the Muse to flow through us. If you try and force it, it will not come.
The Muse is not to be commanded, it is to be enticed to speak to you.
It takes quiet, it takes calming down, it takes shutting out the world, it’s waiting for the butterfly to land on your hand, it takes patience and being calm and an attitude of humility and gratefulness to allow the Muse to speak and flow through us.
I find that most inspiration comes in the quiet of the early morning, when there is no noise, everyone is still sleeping, just me with my journal and my thoughts and this allows the voice of inspiration, the Muse to speak to me.
It is so important to have a quiet time because I know that once the day starts all the noise and distractions of life come with it.
Find a quiet time where you can learn to hear the Muse, that still quiet voice within, once you learn to tap into the inspiration within, it is like being in contact with the Eternal.
First I read some positive literature and write out my goals and say my affirmations.
I talk to myself about how grateful I am for my children and grandchildren, my work, my friends and I allow the peace to surround me and then I write.
Often like this morning not knowing what to write, a few words and a sentence and then two pages later I am amazed at what I have written.
It always begins slowly and the key to hearing the Muse, the inner genius, is you starting to work, you must start writing before she will come.
You must start drawing before she will come.
You must start painting before she will come.
She is enticed, attracted to your energy, to your gift and then she speaks and begins to work with you.
She does not lead you she comes when attracted to you gift at work.
If you want the Muse to come before you start, most likely she will not come.
Watch a child draw and you will see the Muse come.
Give the child crayons or pencils and paper and ask them to draw for you. They will most likely ask you what they should draw and you say whatever they want, draw what’s around you, then they will start tentatively and before long they are just consumed by drawing and then they will stop and show you their drawing and wait for your praise.
The Muse comes to children quickly as they are not yet burdened with life and all the noise.
If you find that you struggle with inspiration and the white canvas is a little scary, begin to practice a quiet time before you start painting.
Start to develop a habit to quieten down the noise before you start to work, then once you are in a quiet state of mind, begin and allow the Muse to come attracted by your gift working and then the Muse will begin to work with you.
It will take time and practice but once you develop a quiet time you will be amazed at what you will accomplish.
It takes quiet and patience for the butterfly to land on your hand and then inspiration will flow.
