Where Art is going to be?
In
response to my quote of hockey player Wayne Gretzky,
“A
good hockey player plays where the puck is.
A
great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.”
I
said lets translate that for Artists,
“
A
good Artists paint where Art is.
A
great Artist paints where Art is going to be.”
I
was asked this question, “Having said that how do you figure out
where the puck is going?”
Where
the puck is going is about you and being brave enough to allow the
creative genius within to guide you. It is so easy to just be like
everyone else and conform, but great Art movements never started that
way, it was the fringe dweller Artists, the odd ones, the
non-conformists, those who were not prepared to settle for average
and mediocrity. They wanted change and they knew that for change to
happen it was up to them to bring it.
Now
that change has to come from within allowing the creative genius
within to come forward and lead you, if you are to be where Art will
be.
To
do this you will have to be very brave and trust your own genius, to
allow your imagination to be your eyes, this is what is needed and
the scary, the “thief” will not take this quietly.
Fear
will be the roadblock.
Failure
will be part of allowing the inner genius to guide us and the “thief”
will scream for safety and for you to be like everyone else, safe.
It
will say, “why do you have to be the one, what if it doesn’t
work, you will be laughed at, people will ridicule you and criticise
you?” and yes the thief is telling you what may happen but be
courageous and remember a lot of Artists are so scared of change and
the new Art, they want the safety of the status quo and they want all
the paintings to look the same, it’s safe.
You
must go against this fear and do what the inner genius wants you to
do, be led by you inner creative genius and be brave enough to
succeed or fail.
Remember
fear makes us copy other Artists because it is easier than facing our
own creativity.
Fear
makes us stay in the crowd, because it’s safe.
Fear
makes us criticise and ridicule other Artists because of our own
insecurities.
Fear
says failure will be the end of your Art career, but it really will
just be an opportunity to do it differently next time.
Don’t
let fear rule your Artistic life.
When
the “thief” arrive to fill you with fear, just say, “Oh you are
here I must be on the right path. I will keep going.”
Allow
your inner creative genius to lead you and learn to see with your
imagination and your Art will change and you will be where Art is,
your original Art.
