The daily struggle.
Well
it’s a new day and the thief might have been defeated yesterday but
it be
back even stronger today.
That’s
what I love about Art, the constant daily
struggle,
the sense of a life and death struggle with
the “thief”, the scary,
that’s what makes an Artist, knowing every day if you want to make
great Art
that
you will need to fight and
win the
day
and then again
the next day and
the next day and the next.
To
accomplish great
Art it
will be a daily battle with the
“thief” it
is
tenacious
and will not stop.
The
thief is sneaky and will use lots of tricks to stop you, it will use
procrastination, excuses, self criticism and if these don’t work
it will use shame, “ Who do think you are to think your work is so
good, you are not an Artist, you are a fraud” very powerful or “
People will laugh at your work and criticize you.”
These
tactics cause people to retreat and get into safe comfortable places,
yes you will still paint but it will become
repetitive
and average
and you will wonder where the thrill has gone.
It
is in the daily battle with that scary “thief” that great bodies
of work are created, not in the common,
average
and mediocre.
When
the thief arrives greet it and say “ You have arrived I must be
doing something good now I will continue doing it.”
To
be an Artist, you will need to be ready
each day for the battle with the enemy within, defeat it today
and
create beautiful original Artwork.
Tomorrow
is a new day, continue
to be victorious over the enemy within.
Haha. I like that, a sense if life and death.
