Know what you want as an Artist.


I do argue that this is the reality for some, “Artists who are living in the now rather than being anxious about the future” and “some artists are happy selling the occasional piece and just getting by” and if that is you, then that is wonderful for you and if you are happy, then you should do that.
I find that the majority of Artists I deal with want to earn a good living to support their families and have a nice life, yes they want some material things and I find no fault with that.
Know what you want as an Artist and go out and get it.
If you want to paint purely for the love of painting and give your paintings away, then you should do that, if that pleases you, I admire that.
If you want to paint and sell the odd painting now and again, great, go and do that, I find no fault with that.
If you want to be a big success in the Art world then go and do it and I will give you all the help and encouragement I can to help you to do that.
There is room in the Art World for everyone and if you find I am to strong about the business side of Art, then please don't read my posts, I will not be offended.
I post about the Art Business and the Art Life to only those who wish to read what I have to say and I know I do not resonate with everyone.
That is what is great about the Art World lots of people with varying opinions all wanting to create Art.
We are all together in this Art World so lets as best as possible be at peace with each other.
I want Artists to learn about the business side because that was my greatest failing as an Artist, how to sell and market my art.
So my friends do your best to get on with all Artists and when you cannot walk away, remember, a soft answer turns away anger.
Be gentle on yourself and love yourself so you can love others.

Why don't people want to pay what my art is worth?

                                               Why don't people want to pay what my art is worth? I keep reading on an artists group pages again and again the same old question, “ I cannot sell my art for what it is really worth?” This is always a question raging in the art world, sort of the never ending question. Every artist has an opinion about this and it sometimes sounds like whining and of coarse they do not want to hear any opinions that differ from the fact, that their art is worth far more than they can sell it for. Your weakest skill, sets the height of your success. If you don't know your best skill, you had better find out your weakest skill, because its the weakest skill that holds you back. As Artists we so often coast along depending on our strongest skills to get us through, never realising that it is the weakest skills that hurt us the most. Now I have learned what not to do, because as an Artist I never did this but after years in Galleries I wish I had, it was a weak skill that determined the height of my success.
