People attach themselves to stories.

For many Artists they have attached themselves to the story of the starving, brooding Artist and believe good art comes from starving? Nothing good comes from starving, a little struggle is good for the soul but starving helps no one.
If you do not have to earn a living from your Art it is very easy to say that you paint purely for the love of painting and you give your work away, I think that is admirable.
But if you have to earn a living from your art, then it is an entirely different ball game.
Selling and learning to sell becomes a priority.
We all need to live and if you are being supported and you can paint and not worry about having to sell, so you can feed your family tomorrow, then you are very fortunate indeed.
There are so many Artists out there who need to sell to survive.
People have attached themselves to the story that you must paint for the love of painting and selling and learning to sell is wrong.
I hear many say that some Artists are selling out because they paint purely to sell?
But most these Artists do this because they love to paint, for them it is a catch 22.
Are these Artists selling out?
Is the talented writer selling out because they write wonderful books and then sells them?
Is the talented song writer selling out because they write wonderful songs and they sell them?
Is the Engineer selling out because he designs beautiful bridges for money?
Is the gifted Architect selling out because he designs beautiful buildings for money?
Of course they are not selling out.
I will never understand why people get so upset when I say that Artists need to learn to sell and market themselves and promote their Art?.
Artists you are professionals and you deserve to earn a good living from your Art like the writer and the Architect, the song writer and the Engineer.
Artists do not attach yourself to the struggling Artist story and remain in bondage.
Learn to sell and promote yourself, you are your best salesperson always, you love your paintings more than anyone else.
If the Artist provides good value they deserve the sale.
