Build your Art business.

In the Art Business you must pay your dues, it takes time and there are no shortcuts.
Of course we have all heard of that one person who has made the big time with seemingly little effort but that is not the normal, the normal is that it takes years of hard work and dedication to become a success.
You must do the time to learn your trade, like any profession you have to start at the beginning and build your reputation, that means getting the attention of strangers and getting known by strangers.
Now I truly believe that every Artist can have some success, I believe that every Artist can earn a living from their Art, but it is not easy, it is hard. Like any small business you have to survive, grow and build your business and that will mean learning new skills as well as painting wonderful original Art works.
You must do the group shows, the competitions, the Art Fairs and anything else you can do to get your Art in front of strangers and mostly it is up to you and you alone to do that.
There are no short cuts and if you think you have found one then most probably it will cost you time you cannot afford to waste.
Honestly Galleries and dealers are not the answer to your Artistic success, you are the answer to your success. Galleries and dealers will handle you if you can sell well and return them a good profit as that is the market that they play in, so many Artists put paintings into Galleries and think that they have made the big time only to find in the six months time the Gallery rings them to come and get their work, because it has not sold..
We have been told for years by the Art institutions, Art schools, Galleries and dealers that without them you cannot make it in the Art world and that is totally wrong, you now have the internet and that broke the shackles of the gatekeepers, they are still singing the same song but less and less Artists are listening as Artists and collectors now can connect directly through the internet. The Galleries and dealers want their commissions but with the internet you do not have to pay commissions and the collector can get a better deal.
The more you put your work out on the internet and talk about your work so you will beginning to get the attention of strangers. It will take time but you will grow and build a community of collectors around you, so post your work every day and talk about it, get on to every Artist group site you can and show and talk about your work.
You are the key to your success and there are no short cuts, stay on the path, work hard on your craft, learn all you can about social media, selling, marketing and public speaking and be patient, it takes time.
