Continue the sale.

Mark... when you are getting great feed back on how wonderful your work is... how do you turn this into a sale?”

If someone is telling you how wonderful your Art work is they are giving you permission to take the conversation further so talk more about your work and especially the piece that they are admiring.

In Galeria de las Islas if someone was admiring a painting and saying nice things I would chat with them and if they continue to say how good it is I would then ask them where they would hang the painting in their home if they owned it. Because if they will tell me that, they are now in their mind beginning to own the painting and imagining what it would look like in their home.
I would continue to chat and then ask them if they would like me to have the painting bubble wrapped and how would they like to pay for the Art work.
I believe you need to ask for the sale, but sometimes people will just say that they love the painting and will take it and you do not have to ask for the sale.
Most Artists are shy about asking for the sale, they feel embarrassed and if the customer does not say they will take it, most people assume the sale is over, don’t do that, always ask for the sale.
I always assume the sale is on until it’s not.
You are not forcing them to buy they can say no.
If they say no continue the conversation and get their email so in a few days you can send them a photo of the painting and the story behind the painting.
It pays to gently remind the customer.
I had a customer say no to a painting and then a few days later we sent them a photo of the painting and a story from the Artist about the Art work, they got back to us and purchased the painting. In their case they needed to think about it and the email reminded them and they bought the painting.
As for the sale and if they say no, follow up with an email but do not go further if you get no reply or no, it’s over.

If someone loves your work and chats with you about it, at some point ask for the sale, if they say no, continue to chat with them and get an email address and continue the sale in a few days.
Always be polite and considerate, if they say no on the second ask, the email, let it go and accept no.
There is always another customer.
