Success is not just given away



I see so many seriously talented Artists who really believe, because they are talented that everything will work out for them and all they have to do is paint and wait for fame and fortune to come, just like winning the lottery. Unfortunately winning the lottery can be a curse because you never learned how to be a success and you need to learn those lessons or success will be your downfall.
Success comes to the prepared, if success comes to the unprepared it seldom stays because they are not prepared for it. I know of so many talented Artists who got early success in their career and today they are not painting.
Artists need to understand that their success depends on themselves, do not rely on others or expect others to open doors for you because that seldom happens until you are successful and then everyone wants to help you because you are successful.
Do not blame the Art Market, or the economy, or the Gallery and you cannot change the attitude of buyers, but you can work on yourself and make yourself better and your whole world will become better.
Change takes discipline, so start with very small disciplines, like getting up half an hour earlier and reading a book on sales or personal development and write out your goals every day.
That is all it takes to start the change, its just a matter of starting and doing it.
The rewards of small disciplines, far out way the cost of loosing a half an hours sleep and the change it will bring in you will change you for the better and you will begin to change your world.
Success is not just given away, it is deliberately preparing for it by working hard on your Artistic life and personal life.

Why don't people want to pay what my art is worth?

                                               Why don't people want to pay what my art is worth? I keep reading on an artists group pages again and again the same old question, “ I cannot sell my art for what it is really worth?” This is always a question raging in the art world, sort of the never ending question. Every artist has an opinion about this and it sometimes sounds like whining and of coarse they do not want to hear any opinions that differ from the fact, that their art is worth far more than they can sell it for. “ I wish I had learned about this when I was trying to sell my paintings.

Your weakest skill, sets the height of your success. If you don't know your best skill, you had better find out your weakest skill, because its the weakest skill that holds you back. As Artists we so often coast along depending on our strongest skills to get us through, never realising that it is the weakest skills that hurt us the most. Now I have learned what not to do, because as an Artist I never did this but after years in Galleries I wish I had, it was a weak skill that determined the height of my success.
