IF YOU ARE RIGHT, KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING, EVEN WHEN IT ALL GOES WRONG
I like to be brutally honest about some
things especially if it is about me because I want everyone to see
that, even with the best laid plans sometimes it does not work out
how you want it to work out. I have just opened last night one of our
most important exhibitions for the year. It certainly did not go to
plan and by the time we closed I was questioning all I did to promote
the show and I had lots of questions?
I made a list of all I did and went over
it and over it wondering what I could have done differently and in
the end I decided what I did was right, so why didn't it work out the
way I planed?
Simple answer.
Because sometimes things do not work out
how you planned them to work out.
Was I wrong in how I promoted it, no.
Could I have done better, of course you
can always see room for improvement with perfect 20/20 hindsight
vision.
So what will I do?
That is a good question that I pondered
over as I went through my morning rituals early this morning. I
thought about everything that happened. Maybe it was because Manila
is in election mode, there were lots of openings last night, there
was an auction last night, the economy is slow, lots of reasons and
excuse went through my mind to try and explain it but, really the
answer is this, “ sometimes that's what happens and that happens
some times and happens to everybody.” So I just need to get over it
and move on and get better at what I do and be smarter.
I believe if you have done all you can
do and you did the best you can do, then just accept it, like the
farmer who looses his crop to a hail storm, that this stuff happens
and happens to everybody so move on, I cannot fix what has happened
but I can work harder and better to guard against it happening next
time. I also know that I have no protection against the hail storm,
that's what we call life, and life happens, when you expecting a
different outcome and it can happen to everyone, I am not special and
being singled out, no this is just life.
Now you can beat yourself up about it
and get depressed about it but that does not alter the outcome, what
I need to do is keep doing what I am doing and pray that there will
be no hail storm next time.
Friends we always talk about the great
success and I have been fortunate to have had more than my fair
share, but every now and again things do not go to plan and that is
when we see the real “me” how we respond to the situation or how
we react to the situation.
Reacting and getting upset will prove
nothing only show you that you have areas in your personal life to
work on.
Responding to the situation will help strengthen you for
the next time.
So what will be my plan of action?
I will start today as a brand new day
and be better at what I do than I was yesterday.
What new thing can I learn, what book
can I read that will teach me what I need to know, what video can I
watch that will strengthen my weak points, I know even at my age I
need to learn more, the world is changing so quickly and I need to
change with it.
Am I disappointed yes, am I defeated, no
far from it, I am motivated to do better.
Disappoints come, that's life, its how
you respond to them that counts.
You can make them a reason to be
defeated and depressed or you make them a reason to be better and
make all the personal changes necessary to win next time.
Don't say life is unfair to you only
because it is unfair to everyone, no one promised it would be fair,
but you change and become a better person and the world will change
with you and you have more successes than failure.
As I say to my staff, “ life is life,
deal with it.”
So the moral of my story is, if you are
right, keep doing what you are doing, even if it all goes wrong.
