Rinse and repeat.
Certainly
the story about the young taxi driver created lots of interest, some
thought I was to hard on him and there were those who saw the moral
of the story, as in small changes repeated make a very big
difference.
As
to whether I was to hard on the young man, well I only had twenty
minutes to talk to him and convince him of how he could change his
life, I would do the same thing again.
The
principle that I shared with him is really so simple, do small steps
and they will lead to big changes.
Peoples
inability to change is very obvious when we consider New Year
resolutions, great statements slowly lost. People decide to do gym at
the beginning of the year with great enthusiasm and by the end of
February they have lost interest.
Why
is this?
When
we attempt to change with just enthusiasm and when that wanes we stop
and go back to our old ways.
Our
old comfortable ways are so easy to fall back into.
To
make big changes in your life takes desperation or disgust, but if
those emotions are not there then you have to do it the only way that
will work for you, small disciplined changes.
Instead
of going to the gym, just walk around the block every day, that's
easy and as you enjoy it so expand your walking horizons.
Change
comes by small steps which lead to big changes and fighting through
all the roadblocks.
This
applies to your Art and to all areas of your life.
If
you will change, everything will change for you.
That
is the principle that I shared with the taxi driver, his challenge
was to save a little to accumulate much over time.
Yours
might be the need to learn to sell, or learn about public speaking,
it starts small, read a book on how to do it. Watch a video and learn
how to do it then practice alone, then practice in front of loved
ones until you are confident and then do it in public.
It
took time to learn to ride a bike.
It
took time to learn to drive a car, it will take time to learn new
skills that will change your life.
Change
comes by learning a little, action it into your life, acquire the
skill, then learn a little more, action it into your life, acquire
more skill and repeat.
Just
like the shampoo bottle says, rinse and repeat.
Change
comes by, learn, action, acquire, repeat.
Change
will come when you decide to change.
