The advantage of small gains.

To often as Artists we do not recognise the advantage of small gains.

We do not even consider them sometimes because we do not think that they are important, but it is the small gains that really count in life.

I spoke to a young Artist last January who wanted to do great things and I said to them that they need to discipline their life and learn to work towards small goals and achieve small steps forward. We talked for some time and money of course was the major thing that they were concerned about and I said ok lets concentrate on money as it is easy to tell if you are doing ok because you will have more.

I asked if they had a bank account and they said no. I said you must learn to save and when you have little money is the best time to learn.

I tried to explain that it not how much you earn that counts but how much you can save from your earnings, that's the real measure of success.

So I gave them a challenge.

If they will open a bank account and save each month and I can see the growth of savings then in December this year, I will double what ever they had saved. I would give the needed first deposit but it would not count in December. They were all excited and went away with good intentions.

Save a little and get a reward for your discipline.

I spoke to them last week and asked how they were going with the saving and they said it was very hard to do. I asked how much they had saved and they said nothing. I asked about my loan of the deposit to start the bank account, sorry they spent it.

I talked to them and they had lots of excuse and I said ok, but I tried to help and if someone had offered me that deal I would have saved every penny I could get my hands on.

The lesson, small disciplines are very hard to start when we are already convinced in our mind that we can't do it, no matter how easy it would be to do.

They were convinced it was to hard and they were right.

Do not let wrong thinking stop you from achieving small goals in your life.

It is not hard to save a dollar each week and that would have been $52 in December which would have then been doubled to $104 and all that was required was a little discipline.

This is the same as reading that book that could change your life.

Doing that workshop that could enhance your career.

Doing that course that could teach you to sell.

All small disciplines that could have great reward for you in the future.

Don't be convinced by yourself that it is to hard to do, because you will be right.

Don't let poor thinking keep you poor.
