Relationships with our collectors.


There is no problem you asking your collector friend for the sale occasionally, because if they buys or does not buy the friendship goes on, it is not based on the sale it is based on their appreciation of your Artistic work and the relationship that you both have.

Warning, never go to this person you have built the relationship with begging for a sale, you may get it but you have instantly changed the relationship and used up your emotional currency.

Before you sold because of your relationship, permission and friendship now you are selling because you are needy.

You may get away with it once, but seldom twice, because you will have used up all your good will.

The customer is not looking for a charity to give to, they are looking for an Artist to admire, follow, support and occasionally buy from, take care of that relationship because it has emotional currency, use it up and the relationship will change.

If you build this relationship with your collector and you will have a relationship for life and make a lifetime of sales, abuse this relationship by being needy and you may find you will lose this collector and a life time of sales.

Build the relationship, sell because they give you permission to show them your paintings and treat the relationship as a precious gift.

Why don't people want to pay what my art is worth?

                                               Why don't people want to pay what my art is worth? I keep reading on an artists group pages again and again the same old question, “ I cannot sell my art for what it is really worth?” This is always a question raging in the art world, sort of the never ending question. Every artist has an opinion about this and it sometimes sounds like whining and of coarse they do not want to hear any opinions that differ from the fact, that their art is worth far more than they can sell it for. Your weakest skill, sets the height of your success. If you don't know your best skill, you had better find out your weakest skill, because its the weakest skill that holds you back. As Artists we so often coast along depending on our strongest skills to get us through, never realising that it is the weakest skills that hurt us the most.
