Positive self talk
.
I talked on the video about criticism and I said criticism was destructive and futile because it will not change something for the better, but it will destroy.
Criticism leaves the person being criticized feeling bad, down and will arouse resentment and finally anger and sometimes retaliation.
I do not believe even constructive criticism is valid, take away the constructive and what do you have left?
So how did I look at my painting and evaluate them without being critical?
I learned very early in my Art career that I did not have to criticize my own work as there were plenty of volunteers out there, more than willing to tear my work apart.
But when evaluating my work, how can I do that without being self critical and thereby self destructive?
If I did not think a painting was good enough, my attitude was to say, I need to do that again, no criticism, just do it again.
Also every afternoon after I would finish painting I would sit with the new work and stare at it and let it show me what changes needed to be made.
I never used words with my own work like, dreadful, wrong, bad work, how stupid to do that, what a terrible painting, never used those words or thoughts, all my paintings were good paintings, some just need a few changes to enhance them.
Do not criticize your own work, enhance it, change it but do not fix what is wrong, because its not wrong it just needs some changes.

You might say to me I am just using words to cover what is the reality, well I am not doing that, because I know how powerful words are and I know I can defeat myself so quickly if I allow myself to become negative, so I will not do that.
I speak to myself in a positive fashion because I know that negative critical voice inside that is scared of everything and it will try to pull me down at every opportunity it can, so I don't give it ammunition.
Positive self words build a positive outlook and attitudes.
Our self talk creates action.
With our positive self talk we can motivate ourselves to do things we never thought we could do, we can empower our lives, or with negative self talk we can shipwreck our lives.
Watch what you think about and say to yourself, be aware of the words that come from your thoughts, and the actions that follow your words, do not criticize yourself or others.

.It all starts with a thought.
