Artists we are involved in relationship selling.
Selling paintings to strangers is all about building a relationship with that stranger.
Meeting a stranger who likes out work.
Building a relationship with that stranger so they will give you permission to sell them a painting.
Selling paintings to that stranger.
Turning that stranger into a collector.
Turning your collectors into friends.
In today’s world it is all about building a relationship during the sales process and maintaining that relationship after the sale with after sales service.
It is never about selling one painting to a stranger it is always about selling a lifetime of paintings to your collector friends.
Friendship is so important in the Art business and it will take work on the part of the Artist to maintain those collector friendships and keep those relationships strong. We live in an age where every Artist can put their work out there on the internet for every collector to see, to maintain our collectors loyalty will take strong relationships.
It is much easier to keep the customers you have than to always having to find new ones, build strong relationships with them.
Strangers buy paintings because of relationships that are built with the Artist, if they like you, most times they will like your work.

Why don't people want to pay what my art is worth?

                                               Why don't people want to pay what my art is worth? I keep reading on an artists group pages again and again the same old question, “ I cannot sell my art for what it is really worth?” This is always a question raging in the art world, sort of the never ending question. Every artist has an opinion about this and it sometimes sounds like whining and of coarse they do not want to hear any opinions that differ from the fact, that their art is worth far more than they can sell it for. Your weakest skill, sets the height of your success. If you don't know your best skill, you had better find out your weakest skill, because its the weakest skill that holds you back. As Artists we so often coast along depending on our strongest skills to get us through, never realising that it is the weakest skills that hurt us the most. Now I have learned what not to do, because as an Artist I never did this but after years in Galleries I wish I had, it was a weak skill that determined the height of my success.
