Don’t wing it.
I don’t want you to be tied up just selling, I understand that creating Art is what every Artist wants to do and has passion to do, but without constant sales you cannot have a viable Art business.
Once we can embrace the idea that selling is part of our business we can then become good at it.
Most fail at selling because they wing it and don’t prepare to sell.
Selling involves having a great story and then great questions.
If you are in your Art booth and a potential buyer is looking at your work you can assume they are interested.
Walk up to the customer and say, “ Hi my names …. I am the Artist.
Let me have 30 seconds of your time to tell you the story behind the painting and if then you don’t want to chat with me I will walk away.
Does that sound fair?”
Start the conversation off very friendly and set up a mini contract and finish with a question, “Does that sound fair?”
Most will say yes, so tell your story in 30 seconds have it prepared and finish your 30 seconds with a question, “ What do like most about my painting?”
After they answer and if they don’t ask a question say, “ I have had 30 seconds, would you like to continue chatting?”
You allow the buyer to give you permission to keep chatting with them and if they say yes have another good question to ask them and keep them talking.
Sit down and think about some great question you could ask, write them out and learn them, you will surprised how confident you will feel in the sales process when you know what your going to say.
Sales is very important if you want a career as an Artist, especially a successful career.
