Criticism is futile.
One of the most damaging things we see in the Art world is the indiscriminate use of criticism and yet I have never seen criticism change something for the better.
The problem with criticism is that it puts the person being criticised on the defensive, it hurts them, many deeply and the only lasting change is resentment towards the critic.
You cannot get the best out of someone by using criticism.
The best approach is to use encouragement and respect, teach people to do things, show them how it’s done and then find ways to congratulate them on every little step forward.
Encouragement and praise are far more profitable than criticism.
