Be faithful with a little.
As Artists we need to learn to be faithful with a little before we will ever be faithful with a lot.
If you cannot be faithful with a few customers, how will we possibly be faithful with a lot of customers?
Most Artists say to me that it will be different when they are successful because then they will be earning a lot and be able to do it, but the truth is if you will not do it for a few, you certainly will not do it for a lot.
If you have sold a painting to someone and you did not get their email, so you could follow them up, then you only got one sale. But if you had been faithful to your Art Business you would have asked for their email and followed them up with an email asking if they would send you a photo of the painting hanging on their wall, nothing more. Of course they will send it back to you and so dialogue opens up and you can ask them if you can send your monthly newsletter and of course if they love the painting they will say yes. Them send them your monthly newsletter.
It is never about the first sale, it is all the sales that are generated out of that first sale,
Be faithful with a few customers and you will be faithful with many.
This is not difficult to do but it does take discipline to follow up people.
Do not let fear stop you from contacting them, in the world we live in today most business do not follow up customers and if they do its to get a another sale.
Follow up because you are interested and care and want to see how wonderful your painting looks on their wall.
When you send your newsletter, make it interesting and positive news, not a sales brochure, talk about your art practice and how to care for paintings, give out good information and value for free to your customers, show you care.
Include a picture of one painting if you wish as your special of the month, but make sure its a different painting for each customer, tastes vary. Do this in a soft way, not hard sell and in time you will get repeat business and they will talk about you to their friends, because you cared and showed interest in them.
Word of mouth is still the best advertising you can get.
Be faithful with a little and you will be faithful with a lot.
