It is not fair.

I was talking to good friend this morning about life and the Art business and I realised one thing that was so important and that one really needs to understand about the Art business and that is this, it is not fair.
Yes, it is not fair.
Some get into Galleries and many don't, it is not fair.
Some sell very well and others don't, it is not fair.
Some with less talent become superstars and some far more talented get ignored, it is not fair.
But then the reality is, life is not fair.
So on this uneven, unfair playing field what must we do to make it fair for us?
Simply, do not play by their rules, because their rules are not fair.
Be creative with your Art Business and get noticed.
Be a trailblazer not a map follower, be different, you don't have to follow the rules, they were made to keep everyone the same, but you are an Artist so be different.
Be the one to always smiles and is friendly and talks to the strangers looking at your Art work.
Sell your work, ask people if they would like to own it, I know you are told not to do that as it might scare off the customer, but I say do it, I always ask that question of people looking at paintings, what is the worst that can happen, they will say no, but you will be surprised how many will say yes.
Don't let other Artists who mean well, try to make you part of the pack and stop you from being forward, most times you get one shot at the stranger looking at your work, be brave and ask for the sale, as I said what do you have to loose?
Be different, when you know the business is unfair make up your own rules, get attention, get noticed and get criticized, it just means you are doing something right.
Paint what you want to paint, be creative, do not follow the sign post make up your own sign posts.
Really what I want you to do is be original, be that creative, gifted person that you are and create wonderful original pieces of Art.
The world is tired of fakes, copies and the same old thing over and over again, the world is looking for original.
So be the Artist you are, believe in yourself and your ability to do new exciting, cutting edge work, and make a new trail.
The Art Business is unfair, so do what you want to do and change your Art Business to suit you.
