I cannot change.

Thinking outside the box, really means grabbing hold of your dreams and working on them to make them reality. Everything that was ever built and achieved started out as a thought, an idea, which was then formed into a dream, a goal and then reality. Of course faith and hard work are also part of the equation but it all starts out with an idea, a thought.
Many Artists feel quite overwhelmed when faced with an exhibition or having to go forward and talk to strangers as it is not part of our comfort zone and they become quiet uneasy.
If the answer to being able to go forward is that I have to change, then we need to change.
One of the great hindrance to change is fear.
What if it doesn't work?
What if I can't change, I know what I am like.
I have always been fearful, I cannot change.
But you can, it is a choice.
The way to bring about change is not to force yourself to just knuckle down and do something because that will not work long term. The way to bring change about is to consider the future and who and what you want to be.
Imagine the things you would love to have done and accomplish in five years. Imagine the person you like to become in five years. Get a good picture of who you will be and what you will have accomplished.
Then the question you have to ask is, what small thing can I do today that will help me achieve my 5 year goal. Whenever we think about change we always imagine it must be big change, but that is so far from reality, it is the small disciplines that make all the difference.
Say you want to improve your health? Most rush out and join a gym and then within two months or sooner they stop. But what if you decided just to walk around the block, that small change would bring about bigger changes and before you know it you are enjoying a half hour walk each day.
Small disciplines.
One Artist I knew could not draw very well and decided to go and do a week long workshop to learn to draw. It was a disaster as everyone there could draw and the Artist felt so intimidated that they did not do all the workshop. They came to me in desperation and I said no problem come around for half an hour every morning and we will learn to draw. Every morning we drew a bottle, a cup, a glass until we could do leaves and flowers and I just gave a few pointers and made no corrections and then when we finished each session I asked them to tell me the difference from their drawing and mine. Within three weeks they could draw reasonably proficiently and now they were ready for the next step the workshop.
Small changes bring big results.
If you want to make big changes start with small disciplines.
