It takes time.

To follow on from yesterdays piece, “ The Great Quest.”.
Having an Art business is just like being in any business you have to build it and in the beginning the profits are small, but you are building a business.
Sales are the most important thing and prices will grow as the business grows.
Some feel that because I say start with lower prices that I am undervaluing the Artist and their paintings, I am not, what I do understand is the need to become known and that is expensive.
You either spend money and advertise or you start with lower prices and build your reputation and your Art Practice.
Survival is the key and for those Artists who have no other means of support other than their Art, it can be a long hard struggle.
Sacrifice in the beginning to build and grow and when you are established and well known the higher prices for your paintings will come.
If you have support, a day job, husband or wife or an income of some kind then you may not think you should do this as sales are not as important.
Yet the reality is if you are to survive in the Art business , you will need great paintings, consistent sales and be a known Artist, because if you are unknown then you are unknown.
It takes time to build a business, especially an Art business and just like in any small business, you start at the beginning, prove yourself over time, and then progressively build your reputation as an Artist and your sales grow.
If it was easy to do, every body would be very successful, it’s not, work hard, be patient and build your Art business.
