Selling #5.. “ Talk to the customers.”
I
am at a loss at the sight of Artists having a group show that someone
has gone to the trouble to promote and when the clients are present
in the show, the majority of the Artists are cowering in the corner
like scared rabbits.
I
wonder what story these Artists are telling themselves?
That
their paintings will sell themselves?
That
somebody will take responsibility and do it for them?
Or
has fear, the “thief” so gripped them that they are unable to
move?
Always
we must remember as Artists that the people who come to view our
openings give us the gift of their precious non-renewable time to do
so, even if they don’t buy something from us, just their arriving
to support us is a wonderful gift.
So
we must respect that and give them our attention, a warm smile and
thank them for coming.
People
like to be appreciated and in our busy world when someone goes out of
their way to visit our Art exhibition so we must show our
appreciation by talking to the visitor and being friendly.
Walk
up and introduce yourself to them and thank them for coming.
Tell
them you are an Artist and then allow the conversation to flow.
Before they go make sure you give them an Artist pack so they have
all your contact materials with them.
Yes
I understand that it can be very scary walking up to strangers,
because the thief wants you be safe and not put into those
challenging positions, but you need to sell your work, that means
talking and being friendly to strangers.
If
you live by the brush then you need to sell your Art work, no sales,
no money, no life.
Appreciate
the time people use to come to see your show.
Warmly
welcome them.
Thank
them for coming, show your appreciation.
Talk
to them about your work and build a relationship.
Always
say goodbye and hand them your Artist pack.
At
every Art exhibition that you show in, be that Artist that walks up
to the stranger and say,
“ Hi,
my name is …., I am one of the Artists represented here, thank you
so much for coming to the show.
Would
you like me to show you around the exhibition?”
